Entry

Demonstration model of a simple tripod gin with a windlass. The front leg, the windlass bars and the tackle are missing.

Two gins of this type can be seen in a photograph of a shipyard in Amsterdam in 1867.3J.B. Kist (ed.), Van VOC tot Werkspoor. Het Amsterdamse industrieterrein Oostenburg, Utrecht 1986, p. 196, fig. 23. They were used to lift heavy timber on to a trestle.

This model comes from the private collection of Jochem Pietersz Asmus (1755-1837).4HNA 2.01.29.02 Dept. Marine, Aanhangsel I, inv. no. 20, La. F no. 14.
