Stilleven voor het nieuwe jaar

Een porseleinen kopje waarop twee jonge hondjes en een paardebloem staan afgebeeld, staat op een dienblad van lakwerk. De zwarte bonen op het blad, dienen net als de hulsttak en de kop van de sardine, als afweer tegen het kwaad, zodat het nieuwe jaar zuiver kon beginnen en voorspoedig zou zijn. De hondjes verwijzen naar het nieuwe jaar van de Hond, 1838. Met één gedicht.

A porcelain cup with a decoration of two puppies by a dandelion on a lacquered tray. Next to the tray a sardine head and holly.

The text ‘Ninth year’ and the name of the Tenpo period, Tenpo 9, i.e., 1838, the Year of the Dog, appear on the porcelain cup, almost as a signature to the decoration of two puppies.

This print was probably designed by the poet.

One poem by Kokatei Namioto [also Kokatei Oe no Namioto, a member of the group around Shinratei (Manzo) II, a subdivision of the Yomogawa].
