The Printing Process of the Miyajima Print

Kawase Hasui (mentioned on object), 1928

This 20th-century album illustrates the various stages of the printing process of a colour woodblock print. The colour block to be used is printed on the right page. The result of all the colour blocks printed up to that point is seen on the left page. Each block was inked and printed by hand for each impression. Once all the colour blocks were printed, the print was ready.
