Beker uit het Nederlandse fort van St. George d'Elmina

Chalices, 1638. Shortly after the Dutch captured Fort El Mina from the Portuguese in 1637, these goblets were commissioned in London. They were used in the fort's small Dutch Reformed church until 1872, when the fort was ceded to the British Empire. The goblets are decorated with the arms of El Mina: a shield depicting an elephant.
