Pair of handcuffs

Frogatt (mentioned on object), c. 1860 - c. 1866

Een paar ijzeren handboeien, met een paar schakels aan elkaar, en de sleutel. Het slot werkt met een eenvoudige pal waarin de beugel valt; de sleutel loopt op een schroefdraad, die deze pal terugtrekt. Beide boeien en de sleutel zijn gemerkt '55'.

Entry

A pair of iron handcuffs linked by a couple of shackles, and a key. The lock is a simple catch, which the key pulls back by turning on a thread. Both cuffs and the key are marked ‘55’.

These handcuffs were acquired by the Inspector of Equipment for the Dutch Navy as examples of British handcuffs in 1866.1HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, inv. no. 4012.
