Stand

anoniem, c. 1100 - c. 1300

This stand once supported a central figure that is now missing. On the corners are lions, symbols of the Khmer kings. These beasts express pride and vigilance through their active stance and expressions. Each lion’s head connects to two bodies. This is an ingenious solution to cater for multiple viewpoints of the stand.
