Description

In de zomermaanden ontvluchtten welgestelden inwoners van Istanbul de benauwde stad om aan de oevers van de Bosphorus verkoeling te zoeken. De vrouwen die deel uitmaakten van het harem van de sultan en de grootvizier namens soms deel aan picknicks en waarschijnlijk heeft Vanmour een dergelijke gelegenheid willen afbeelden. Hunkiar Iskêléci was een bekende plek aan de Bosphorus waar men bijeen kwam.
