In this sketch, Takeo Hanazawa explores how to create an image that hovers between landscape and still life. What initially appears to be a mountain turns out to be a stack of books on a table, covered with a layer of snow. The artist is influenced by 18th and 19th-century Japanese paintings and prints. Moreover, Vincent van Gogh’s paintings of books were a direct inspiration for this drawing.
