Portrait of Joan Crawford, Edward Steichen, 1931
Between 1923 and 1937 Steichen portrayed many celebrities for the American magazines Vanity Fair and Vogue. He stopped making the customary soft-focus portraits, and just as in his fashion photographs, combined elegance and sharp focus, realism and glamour. He photographed most of the celebrities in New York, but took some shots in Hollywood, including this portrait of the actress Joan Crawford.
