Group of Young People with Vali Meyers and ‘Benny’ at Chez Moineau, Paris

Ed van der Elsken, after 1949 - before 1954

Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken settled in Paris in 1950. His photo book Love on the Left Bank is a fictional story centred on the bohemian group of friends around Australian artist Vali Myers. The book’s sombre and cinematic imagery suits the existentialist quest of the young people who lived on the fringes of Paris.
