Return from the Hunt

Charles Rochussen, c. 1845

Two painters who often collaborated worked on this frosty hunting scene. Charles Rochussen painted the figures, Johannes Hoppenbrouwers he landscape. In this way, they capitalized on each other’s area of specialization. Rochussen was a history painter and depicted the hunters and other people in 17th-century clothing. The fully loaded carts include a deer that was shot during the hunt.
