Gallery of a Palace with Ornamental Architecture and Columns

Dirck van Delen, 1630 - 1632

This canvas together with six other paintings formed the wall decoration of a room in a palace. The distinguished people in this group are, from left to right: Prince Frederick Henry of Orange, stadholder of Holland, and four other provinces; his wife Amalia of Solms; his cousin Ernest Casimir of Nassau, stadholder of Friesland and Groningen; and Duke Christian of Brunswick. Frederick Henry succeeded his brother Maurice as stadholder and army commander in 1625.

    Onderdeel van een zevendelige kamerbeschildering in vijf stukken met afbeeldingen van een interieur, twee galerijen en twee buitentrappen, bevolkt met talrijke personen. Dit stuk toont een galerij van een paleis met ornamentale architectuur en zuilen. Met (van links naar rechts) portretten van prins Frederik Hendrik, Amalia van Solms, de Friese stadhouder Ernst Casimir van Nassau-Dietz en zijn zoon Hendrik Casimir I. Enkele heren hebben honden bij zich, links vertrekt een bode.
