Jacob de Wit (signed by artist), 1727

Jacob de Wit specialized in decorative paintings for town and country houses. He designed entire ensembles, with large paintings and overdoors set in panels. He decided where the paintings were to be placed and adapted the compositions and the fall of light accordingly. This painting and its pendant (to the left of the mantelpiece) were made for the country house of an Amsterdam citizen situated along the River Vecht.

    Jupiter en Callisto. In een landschap verleidt Jupiter in de gedaante van Diana de nimf Callisto. Achter Diana een adelaar met bliksemschichten, links spelende putti. Rechts op de voorgrond de jachtattributen van Diana en enkele jachthonden. Behoort bij SK-A-3886. Onderdeel van een kamerdecoratie geschilderd in opdracht van Jan Baptist de Surmont, heer van Vlooswijk, voor zijn huis te Loenen aan de Vecht. Fragment van een kamerdecoratie.
