Wheat Reaper with Hat, Seen from Behind

Vincent van Gogh (signed by artist), 1885-08

Van Gogh lived with his parents in Nuenen in the province of Brabant from December 1883 to November 1885. While there he concentrated on studying peasants for his painting The Potato Eaters. In August 1885 he was mainly involved with the wheat harvest. This image of a wheat reaper is one of Van Gogh’s large-format drawings of peasants at work in all manner of poses.
