A Woman with a Child on Her Lap
Adriaen van de Velde, 1662 - 1667
In so far as is known this is the only preserved preparatory study for the large family portrait in a landscape. From the drawing, it is evident that Van de Velde initially wanted to depict the little girl with her face turned to the right. In the painting, she looks out directly at you.
