Abraham Caressing Isaac

Rembrandt van Rijn (mentioned on object), c. 1637

This is above all a charming depiction of a father caressing his child. The aged Abraham ruffles the hair and cups the chin of his spirited little boy Isaac, who hangs over his knee. Abraham looks straight out at us, while Isaac’s attention is drawn to something beyond the picture plane, lending extra interest to the scene.
