Libyan Sybil

Magdalena van de Passe (mentioned on object), 1615

These four women in antique dress are sibyls: prophetesses who, according to tradition, announced the coming of Christ. The entire De Passe family workshop collaborated on the series, which consisted of twelve prints. This teamwork enabled the shop to produce large quantities of prints at a fast pace. Magdalena was responsible for these three sibyls.
