The Worldly Life of Mary Magdalene

Lucas van Leyden (mentioned on object), 1519

The print portrays the sinful, worldly life of Mary Magdalene before she became a follower of Jesus. In a landscape with amorous couples she dances timidly to the music of a piper and a drummer. Only a tiny detail alludes to her later life: far in the distance, near the rock, she is being being lifted to heaven by four angels.
