Agony in the Garden

Rembrandt van Rijn (mentioned on object), c. 1652

Rembrandt renders the start of the Passion of Christ very empathetically. After the Last Supper, Christ went with his disciples fo the Mount of Olives. He asked them to pray, while he went further into the Garden of Gethsemane and begged God to spare him. An angel supports him in his deepest despair. In the distance, soldiers accompanied by Judas enter through the gate to arrest Christ.
