Christ Disputing with the Doctors

Rembrandt van Rijn, 1630

After celebrating Passover in Jerusalem, Joseph and Mary discover that their 12-year-old son did not travel home with them in the caravan. They turn back and after three days finally find Christ in the Temple in discussion with the doctors of the church. Bathed in light, he gestures excitedly amid the adults. His anxious parents approach from the far right.
