Portrait of Charles Mouton (c. 1626-before 1699)

Gerard Edelinck (mentioned on object), after 1690 - 1707

Charles Mouton was an important French lute player, teacher and composer. Gerard Edelinck is said to have engraved this portrait for Mouton in gratitude for the lute lessons he had given to Edelinck’s eldest daughter. Little is known about Mouton’s life, but his music lives on thanks to the compositions he created and which are still performed today.
