Explanatory note

  • Prent naar Murillo's zelfportret van c. 1670-3 now in the National Gallery, London. The painting was in Brussels in 1682, where the Murillo admirer Don Nicolas Omazur commissioned this engraving by Collin. Collin produced a much reduced second portrait of Murillo, again after the Self-Portrait for inclusion in Sandrart's 'Academia Nobilissimae Artis Pictoriae', Nuremberg 1683.
