In 1535, Emperor Charles V defeated the Turks at Tunis. One of his officers, Count Maximilian of Buren, seized this basin as booty. As the inscription on the object shows, he then gave it to the town of Grave on 26 December 1536. Earlier the Turks had themselves looted the basin in Naples.

Description
Lavabo in de vorm van een kom met kleine tuit en een door twee mascarons gehouden hengsel, dat in het midden een gefacetteerde knop heeft met een ring waaraan het kan worden opgehangen. De kuip is ruitvormig geponst en vertoont om het midden een vergulde, gladde band met het wapen van Maximiliaan van Buren in goud en email, en het gegraveerde opschrift: "dit * kleynoet * is * by * Maximiliaen * ionckgreef * tot * Bueren * van * der * ongelovige * in * aphrica * gewonen * en * opte * 28 * desemb. * a * 1536 * der * stat * graef * gegonen." Op de bodem van de ketel een geometrische versiering van opgedreven punten met facetten.
