Armstoel van eikenhout, met huifkap

Armchair. Oak. Netherlands (Amsterdam?), c. 1560-1570. In 1578 this chair was owned by the burgomaster of Amsterdam, Dirck Jansz de Graeff. Tradition has it that William of Orange then sat in it when he visited Amsterdam. This 'historical fact' is recorded on a metal plate which De Graeff's descendants placed on the chair when they loaned it to the Koninklijk Oudheidkundig Genootschap in 1877. On loan from the De Graeff family to the Koninklijk Oudheidkundig Genootschap.

Description
Armstoel van eikenhout met overhuiving. Het dak wordt aan de voorkant door een fronton afgesloten. Dit heeft van onderen een vlakke boog met twee saters als consolefiguren; het veld vertoont een cherub binnen rolwerk en acanthusblad als hoekvulling. De armleggers zijn voluutvormig. De zijpanelen hebben aan de voorzijde een gecanneleerde stijl. De zitting bestaat uit gespannen singels, waarop een los kussen. Hieronder aan de voorzijde een deurtje.
