Layette Cupboard

anonymous, c. 1660 - c. 1670

This cupboard was almost certainly made in the same workshop as the other example in this gallery. It features the same contrast between the rectangular cabinet and its auricular stand. In this case the kwab motifs are combined with naturalistic elements: angel’s heads and swags of flowers. This example was probably made a little later than the other one.

  • Description

    Luiermandskast van eiken- en notenhout. De poten van het onderstel bestaan uit grote voluten, versierd met cherubkoppen en kwabornament. De gebeeldhouwde regels ertussen vertonen een maskerachtig kwabmotief met blad- en bloemranken. De kast bevat twee deuren van ongelijke breedte. De verkropte hoeken bevatten nissen, bovenaan voorzien van een schelpmotief. Rondom de nissen, op de uiteinden van de zijkanten en in het midden van de voorzijde zijn festoenen met vruchten, bloemen en bladeren gebeeldhouwd.
