Een soldaat, ten voeten uit, naar rechts, die een spies (lans) bijna horizontaal boven zijn rechterschouder draagt (nr. 9), ca. 1600. Zijn handen ver uit elkaar om de spies. Dit is de tweede handeling voor het opheffen van de spies naar de schouder en het horizontaal dragen ervan. Plaat 9 in de instructies voor het hanteren van de spies: Brief instruction upon the contrefaictinges, concerning the right use, of all what a Souldier needeth to know in handling of the Pike. Onderdeel van de illustraties in een Engelse editie van J. de Gheyns Wapenhandelinghe: J. de Gheyn, The exercise of armes for calivres, muskettes and pikes after the ordre of Maurits Prince of Orange, 's-Gravenhage 1608.
