Lidded Vase

There were many porcelain connoisseurs in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Monarchs as well as wealthy individuals assembled huge collections. August the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, was the greatest collector. He filled entire palaces with porcelain. He had the pieces marked on their bases with incised numbers and symbols. These two large vases came from his collection.

Description
Balustervormige dekselpot van porselein, beschilderd in onderglazuur blauw. Het lichaam is volledig bedekt met een doorlopende bloemrank (pioen). Op de schouder een band met lambrequins met uitgespaarde bloem- en lotusranken tegen een blauwe achtergrond. Boven de voet een band met gestileerde bladmotieven. De nek met lotusranken. De deksel met bloemranken; dekselknop in de vorm van een vergulde, bronzen shishi. Gemerkt op de onderzijde met een ingegrift Johanneumnummer 'N393' boven een golvende lijn. Blauw-wit.
