Gerrit Schouten was Surinam’s foremost artist in the nineteenth century. About 40 of his dioramas have survived. Depicting plantations, the city of Paramaribo and the life of several population groups, they give a unique insight in Surinam around 1820. This book is published in Dutch edition only.
