Sand & sea

From the series What’s new in the collection

Ludolf Bakhuysen (1630-1708) painted this clear seascape showing the coast at the village of Huisduinen, near Den Helder. It shows a woman standing on the beach with her child as two men watch on from the dunes. The vessel on the beach is a kaag, a small freight vessel.
