From the series Then and now

It was probably Floris V (1254–1296), Count of the provinces of Holland and Zeeland, who commissioned the construction of Muiden Castle in the last quarter of the 13th century. It stood at a strategic location, where the River Vecht meets the Zuyder Zee. At the time, it formed the border between the provinces of Utrecht and Holland.
