Wine Fountain and Cooler

From the series One hundred masterpieces
Wine fountain and cooler attributed to Alger Mensma (1682-1757), Jan Lanckhorst (1682-after 1757), Amsterdam, 1731-1732, silver

This wine fountain ornamented with a ship and sea creatures formed the centrepiece of a lavish buffet. You can pour and cool wine from it. Admiral Schrijver received the gift from the Dutch East India Company (VOC) out of gratitude for having recaptured two hijacked VOC ships.
