Militia Company of District VIII in Amsterdam

From the series One hundred masterpieces
Militia Company of District VIII in Amsterdam under the Command of Captain Roelof Bicker Bartholomeus van der Helst (1613-1670), oil on canvas, c. 1643

This work is 7.5 meters wide. Van der Helst did not line up the guardsmen in a monotonous row, but created depth by placing those wearing the brightest clothing at the front. And he also included himself.
