Madonna of Humility Fra Angelico (c. 1400–1455), Florence, c. 1440, tempera on panel

This picture was painted by the monk Fra Angelico from Florence. It is a so-called ‘Madonna of Humility.’ Mary does not sit on a throne but on a pillow, albeit a very beautiful one.
