From the series One hundred masterpieces
Chest with nine porcelain bottles Japan and Batavia (now Jakarta), c. 1680–1700, wood, hard-paste porcelain

Such bottle cabinets were used by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) as business gifts.
The boxes were made in Indonesia and the bottles came from Japan; it was vital to ensure they did not break or spill their precious contents in transit.
