Fishing for Souls Adriaen van de Venne (c. 1589-1662), oil on panel, 1614

Protestants stand on the left bank, and Catholics on the opposite one. Riverboats carry people of both faiths, each trying to recruit souls over to their own side. This is a commentary by the painter Adriaen van de Venne on what was going on during his time.
