Flying above New York
From the series In detailAutomobile with four figures hovering above Mulberry Bend Park, New York. Published by Theodor Eismann. Autotype and colour lithograph, postmarked 1908.
A car with four passengers drifts through the air above the city, as if nothing were out of the ordinary. Postcards with imaginative scenes like this were hugely popular at the start of the twentieth century.
This postcard is part of the exhibition FAKE!: Early photocollages and photomontages, on view from 6 February to 25 May 2026.
