Analytical Spectroscopy in Art and Archaeology at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, 23, 24, 25 and 26 September 2013.
Welcome to the webpage of the international conference TECHNART 2013, jointly organized by TECHNART and ICOM-CC Scientific Working Group. The goal of TECHNART 2013 is to provide a scientific forum for analytical and conservation scientists to advance and apply analytical spectroscopic techniques to materials in art and archaeology. Materials are interpreted in a broad sense implying paint media, pigments and dyes, stones, metals, glass, ceramics, resins, wood, textiles and synthetic materials.
The local TECHNART 2013 organizing committee will work together with the Scientific Research Working group of ICOM-CC in the program organization in order to build bridges between the conservation and the analytical sciences.
TECHNART 2013 is hosted at the Rijksmuseum and will take place on 23, 24, 25 and 26 September 2013 in the Rijksmuseum auditorium in Amsterdam. This conference will take place directly after the conference of Painting Techniques 2013 which will be hosted in the Rijksmuseum as well during 18 to 20 September 2013.
Special Conference Topics in relation to Cultural Heritage Issues:
- Correlative microscopy: combining microscopic and spectroscopic techniques;
- Advances in non-invasive spectroscopic techniques;
- Imaging 2 and 3D analytical techniques using X-rays, Neutrons, Electrons and Light;
- Microanalysis of organic constituents using mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy;
- Progress in proteomics and immunological approaches to characterize proteins in works of art and - archaeological objects.

Themed series of papers in Heritage Science journal
All presenters are invited to contribute their papers for publication in Heritage Science – a new open access journal. Submitted manuscripts should present original scientific research or a review in the context of cultural heritage and conservation studies.
All manuscripts are previewed by the scientific committee, and forwarded to the journal if considered suitable. All manuscripts are subsequently rigorously peer-reviewed. On publication, articles are freely and permanently accessible online, without subscription charges or registration barriers.
Members of the Editorial Board are attending Technart 2013, and Heritage Science is an Exhibitor – they will be pleased to meet you at their stand.
