Special evening opening event at the Rijksmuseum: visitors on the evening of Friday 15 November can enjoy both the 'Rembrandt-Velázquez. Dutch and Spanish Masters' exhibition and a performance by the Spanish dance company Taiat Dansa.
On 15 November, the Rijksmuseum will re-open after regular opening hours. This special evening event will be a unique opportunity to enjoy at your leisure the masterpieces of the great masters of 17th-century Spain and the Netherlands. Paintings by Rembrandt, Velázquez, Zurbarán, Frans Hals, Murillo, Vermeer hang in pairs at Rembrandt-Velázquez. Dutch and Spanish Masters, resulting in fascinating visual dialogues.
The evening will be further enlivened with a performance by the dance company Taiat Dansa, from Valencia, Spain. Their 20-minute piece No Half Measures, Retratos en Movimiento (‘portraits in motion’) will be performed in the Atrium of the Rijksmuseum. The choreography was created especially for the exhibition with the idea of bringing dance and museums closer together. In their performance, Taiat Dansa use physical movement to interpret the emotions expressed by Rembrandt and Velázquez in their self-portraits. The dance draws on the Baroque era, the period in which both painters developed into great artists.
Taiat Dansa will give a performance in the OBA Oosterdok on Saturday 16 November. Click here for more info.
This Rembrandt-Velázquez evening event is the result of a partnership between Rijksmuseum and Instituto Cervantes.
