Hubert Baija Senior Conservator of Frames and Gilding

Curriculum vitae and work

baija Hubert Baija is senior conservator of frames and gilding at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. He studied at the University of Amsterdam and at the State Academy of Fine Arts. Following a successful career as an artist and illustrator he became a conservator of gilded and polychrome wooden artifacts. He is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation and a Professional Member of Restauratoren Nederland. He has taught professional development workshops and he is a guest lecturer at the University of Amsterdam. He served internationally as a specialist examiner for MA and PhD candidates. Hubert was a co-chair of the ICOM-CC Wood, Furniture and Lacquer Working Group and participated in peer review committees. He published on historical gilding techniques, frame history and conservation.
