The tours available offer different routes along the museum's highlights, including the thoroughly renovated building and various departments. Tour duration is either 45 or 90 minutes .

You can start independently by keying in a number code. The "magic window" offers an entirely new perspective and shows you more. Choose the "Learn More" option to access in-depth information from experts.

Colonial Past (90 minutes)

post This tour guides visitors along twenty objects that offer a glimpse of various sides of the Netherlands' colonial past, with all its brilliance and darkness, as well as its famous and not-so-famous aspects. There are myriad stories that come with the objects in the Rijksmuseum's collection. This tour examines exploitation, slavery and domination. At the same time, it investigates the curiosity about new worlds, which led to trade, innovation and cultural exchange. The tour also explores our perceptions today. The expert accounts and animations offer a better understanding of the objects examined.



This mystery tour will guide you past some of the Rijksmuseum's most famous highlights and will introduce you to some unexpected treasures - from the Middle Ages to Mondriaan. Naturally, Rembrandt's Night Watch is included along the way.


This walking tour of the building leads past the most important sections and recounts stories about the building's past. You'll never look at this extraordinary city icon in the same way again.

Family game (60 minutes)

Discover the mystery of the Night Watch, snap a selfie with the Milkmaid, get an assignment from the director and uncover the secrets of the Dutch fleet during the Golden Age. A dynamic group activity, this family game will have you solving eight of the Rijksmuseum's most intriguing mysteries in just one hour. If you succeed, there's a surprise waiting at the end of your tour ....

Regular routes last either 45 or 90 minutes. Visitors can also select their own routes, using a "find the number" system.
