The Rijksmuseum is proud to announce a new sponsor: Eye Wish Opticians. For a period of three years, Eye Wish Opticians will make a significant contribution to the conservation and restoration of the Rijksmuseum’s seventeenth and eighteenth-century glass collection, one of the world’s most important collections of Dutch glass from this period.
In 1885, when the brand new Rijksmuseum building opened its doors on the Stadhouderskade, the glass collection went on display as part of the Netherlands Museum of History and Art. The three eighteenth-century engraving techniques – diamond-point engraving, wheel engraving and stipple engraving – are therefore all represented at the very highest level.
On an annual basis Eye Wish Opticians will fund a permanent position for a junior glass curator and a PhD researcher working in the field of glassware.
