The Rembrandt tour brings you closer to his genius. Who was he, what made him so special, who were his friends?
Rembrandt is the most celebrated Dutch painter of the 17th century.
The Rembrandt tour brings you closer to his genius. Who was he, what made him so special, who were his friends, his beloved, his rivals, his patrons? In the Rijksmuseum you can learn about all of this. At the mere age of 20 he paints his first self-portrait in an entirely novel manner, introducing unprecedented contrasts of light and dark. And in his 60s he paints The Jewish Bride, The Syndics of the Drapers’ Guild, large portraits of self-assured Amsterdam citizens. And of course there is the Nightwatch, his most famous painting that still fascinates.
