Guided Tour High Society

Rich and powerful sitters, from the Middle Ages to the present, in full regalia.

veronese Paolo Veronese, Count Iseppo da Porto / Countess Livia da Porto Thiene, c. 1552. Baltimore, Walters Art Museum and Florence, Galleria degli Uffizi, Contini Bonacossi Collection

The allure of the portraits in this spectacular exhibition draws you right in: rich and powerful sitters, from the Middle Ages to the present, appear in full regalia. They are decked out from head to toe in the finest fabrics and splendid jewels, their hair in the latest style. On view are portraits painted by great masters, from Cranach and Velázquez to Rembrandt and Manet. This jet set is ready to receive you during an hour-long tour: they will introduce themselves and divulge their secrets. You will hear the stories of their lives, and there is also so much to see: what clothes are they wearing, what jewels and accessories? Naturally Rembrandt’s fully restored portraits of Marten and Oopjen play a role in this festive tour.
