Two dragonflies, an antlion and five smaller insects

Johannes Bronckhorst (1648–1727), paper, ink, 1685–1727

Johannes Bronckhorst must have had exceptional motor skills. He was able to record minute details, such as the gossamer-thin wings of the large dragonfly, with the steadiest of hands. To see such details at all, he must have used a magnifying glass. The dragonflies are an Asian species and probably came from a collector’s cabinet.
