When the Prussian hussars finally arrived on the scene, the fun was over. In September 1787 they invaded the Republic to restore the stadtholder’s power and the princess’s honour. The once bold Dutchmen here trip over each other in their haste to escape. In both prints, frogs imitate the actions in the scene. This is a classic English caricature of the Dutch.
