Fruit, bread, and cheese – grouped by type – are set on a table covered with costly damask tablecloths. The illusion of reality is astounding; the pewter plate extending over the edge of the table seems close enough to touch. The Haarlem painter Floris van Dijck ranked among the pioneers of Dutch still-life painting.

Description

Stilleven met kazen. Op een tafel met kleden van wit linnendamast en roze zijde staat in het midden een tinnen schaal met drie kazen, daarvoor een Chinees bord met noten of olijven en een tinnen bord met een doorgesneden halve appel. Rechts staat een schenkkan van Siegburgs steengoed, links een Chinese kom met appels en een tinnen bord met witte en blauwe druiven. Verder een roemer, enkele glazen, een broodje, een mes, een kool en een peer.
