Reclining Venus, attributed to Lambert Sustris, c. 1540 - c. 1560

canvas, h 116cm × w 186cm. More details

Born in Amsterdam, Sustris spent most of his career in Italy. In Venice, he was a close associate of the leading painter Titian. In this work, Sustris used as a model one of Titian’s most celebrated paintings, the so-called Venus of Urbino, but he gave his figure an elegant, more mannered pose.
