Cell graphics are based on the representation of a cube on a flat plane, using black, grey and white planes. Division produces a structure of small cubes, which can also represent curving planes. The architects William Graatsma and Jan Slothouber used these studies to demonstrate their cubic design system at the 1970 Biennale in Venice.
