The semblance of reality exuded by Escher’s prints is the result of the – often manipulated – rules of perspective that he implemented. His peerless imitation of the appearance of objects contributes to this effect as well. The surface of the various materials is almost tangibly rendered: iron and glass are hard and sharp, while the little clay pipe and the eggshell seem delicate and fragile.
