Ernst Casimir of Nassau-Dietz’s hat with a bullet hole, anoniem, in or before 1632
Count Ernst Casimir commanded the Dutch army together with his cousin Frederick Henry. He wore this hat at the Siege of Roermond in 1632. As he was inspecting the trenches around the city, he was shot in the head. The Spanish bullet went right through the hat, which the Count’s descendants carefully preserved as a keepsake.
